Les bibliothèques finnoises seront introduites par elles-mêmes au congrès — pas seulement dans les salles de réunions. Le chemin de l'entrée du centre des congrès jusqu'à l'étage principal sera un véritable boulevard des bibliothèques. Tout le ong vous verrez 50 présentations intrigantes de bibliothèques finnoises, avec, en plus, des présentations d'Estonie, de Lituanie et de Russie. A l'étage principal les bibliothèques finnoises assembleront le stand de Libraries.fi, qui offre de l'information, des exemples et plusieurs bulletins. — Organisations nationales et internationales : réunion de travail
Le Groupe d'intérêt spécial sur les relations entre les organisations nationales et internationales fut créé pour discuter le besoin des organisations nationales de partager de l'information sur la façon de conduire leurs activités internationales . Le groupe partagera les meileures pratiques et développera des outils pour les aider à gérer leurs relations internationales.
Depuis 4 ans, quelques outils et analyses ont été partagés entre les membres ; mais le groupe doit développer un nouveau plan d'activités et accroître son autorité.
Cette réunion de travail est ouverte à tous ceux intéressés par la façon dont les organisations nationales s'engagent dans des activités internationales et veulent contribuer au succès futur du Groupe d'intérêt spécial sur les organisations nationales et internationales.

Peter von Bagh est un historien du film, auteur de plus de 30 livres sur des films, l'histoire et les arts populaires (incluant une Histoire du du cinéma mondial, 1975 et 1998, et un livre sur et avec Aki Kaurismäki, publié dans cinq langues). Docteur en sciences politiques ; producteur de télévision et de radio toute sa vie ; édituer de livres (plus de 100 livres de Balzac à Eisenstein, Meyerhold, Fellini et autres); directeur de films, avec la spécialité de rassembler des films, incluant de grandes séries comme Oi kallis Suomenmaa, une histoire de la Finlande (1997), et le Chant de la Finlande (Sininen laulu), progamme de 12 heures sur l' histoire des arts en Finlande - qui reçut en 2007 le prix du livre Finlandia.
Ces derniers films incluent "Helsinki Forever" et "Sodankylä Forever" qui ont circulé dans le monde. Ecrivain de scripts(par exemple des films de Risto Jarva); éditeur en chef (depuis 1971) de la revue "Filmihullu" ; curateur (1967-70) et directeur de programmes (1970-85) des archives finnoises du films ; professeur d'histoire du film à l'université des arts d'Helsinki ; directeur artistique et cofondateur (avec les frères Kaurismäki) du Festival du film du soleil de minuit ; directeur artistique d'un festivzl du film italien appelé Il cinema ritrovato (Bologne, depuis 2001).

Comment les bibliothécaires et les architectes envisagent le futur des bibliothèques ?
Dans un proche futur, beaucoup de bibliothèques à Helsinki doivent être rénovées. La bibliothèque de la ville d'Helsinki fait l'objet d'un concours international d'architectes pour une nouvelle bibliothèque centrale. Dans le monde universitaire, la nouvelle bibliothèque centrale de l'Université d'Helsinki ouvrira en septembre 2012. De plus, la bibliothèque nationale rénove son bâtiment unique pour répondre aux besoins des usagers.

Vers le travail en noeud : définir un nouveau concept de travail dans une bibliothèque universitaire
Le professeur Yrjö Engeström est directeur de Centre de recherche sur l'activité, le dévelopement et l'apprentissage (CRADLE) à l'Institut des sciences du comportement de l'université d'Helsinki. CRADLE est une communauté scientifique reconnue internationallement et comprend une communauté de 30 chercheurs, conduisant un développement sur place et des étudessur l'histoire culturelle et une approche socioculturelle. Le sujet de ces études est la transformation et le processus de formation dans le travail et les organisations.
Le Professeur Yrjö Engeström a été impliqué dans un long projet de recherche sur le développement des bibliothèques, "Knotworking in Academic Librariesé. Le projet, en cours à la bibliothèque universitaire d'Helsinki, est destiné à développer une nouvelle façon de dépasser les frontières, nouant un modèle de travail en réseau pour les bibliothèques et groupes de recherche.
Engeström a été professeur et directeur du laboratoire de la connaissance humaine comparative à l'Université de Californie, San Diego, et professeur académique à l'Academie de Finlande. Il est direteur du CRADLE et a été Directeur de son prédecesseur le Centre pour la théorie de l'activité et la recherche sur le développement du travail qui fut un centre national d'excellence de 2000 à 2005.
Le professeur Engeström est docteur honoris causa de l'Université d'Oslo et professeur honoraire de l'Université de Birmingham, UK. Son dernier livre est "From Teams to Knots: Activity-Theoretical Studies of Collaboration and Learning at Work (Cambridge University Press, 2008).

Les bibliothécaires, les bibliothèques, et les associations ont joué un rôle majeur dans le progrès de l'accès libre et vont continuer à le faire. Cependant, maintenant que l'accès libre se développe et pénètre le courant principal, les défis et les possibilités deveinnent plus sérieux.
La communication er l'édition scientifique se caractérise par un double mode : une souscription (SB) et l'accès libre (OA). Avec la croissance continue de l'accès libre et de l'ouverture la réalité est que, dans un futur prévisible, les bibliothèques devront traiter avec les deux modes : la souscription et l'accès libre. Cependant, il n'y a pas de signes que les coûts d'acquisition et de traitement des souscriptions se réduisent, ou que les crédits des bibliothèques s'accroissent.
Par conséquent, si les bibliothèques veulent toujours jouer un rôle dans le progrès et une réelle installation de l'accès libre, et étant donné que la baisse des crédits des bibliothèques, comment les bibliothèques peuvent faire face aux défis inhérents à ce scénario le plus probable ? Comment les bibliothèques peuvent-elles se positionner pour tirer un avantage des différentes possibilités offertes par ce scénario ?
Les défis ont plusieurs dimensions dans le fonctionnement des bibliothèques. Notre séance se penchera sur les différents problèmes :
• Gérer le contenu en libre accès au sens le plus large : de nouvelles qualifications et compétencies sont nécessaires pour gérer les publications en libre accès, les données de recherche et les ressources pour l'éducation. Quelles sont ces qualifications et sont-elles disponibles ? Sinon, comment la profession, par ses organisations de bibliothécaires et ses responsables peut-elle s'assurer qu'elles seront disponibles sous peu ?
• Gérer le double contenu : si les bibliothèques veulent traiter plus de contenu en libre accès mais ont aussi à traiter avec des souscriptions sans ressources financières ou humaines supplémentaires, quelles sont leurs options ? Devront-elles externaliser les opérations à des sociétés ou organisations extérieures ? Ou les bibliothèques doivent-elles abandonner leur autonomie et confier à des entités régionales/nationales la négociation et la décision d'obtenir une licence sur le contenu numérique ? Y a-t-il d'autres options pour réduire les coûts de gestion des souscriptions ?
• Développer les infrastructures : l'accès libre en est encore à ses débuts, mais avec l'arrivée de modèles économiques durables et la croissance des mandats de fonds de recherche, de gouvernements et d'organisations supranationales comme l'UE, il y a un besoin croissant pour une infrastructure d'accès libre qui permette au contenu en libre accès d'être intégré de façon transparente aux systèmes de bibliothèques. Les bibliothèques doivent soutenir, développer et mettre en place de telles infrastructures mais ceci exige des ressources humaines et financières. Comment les bibliothèques et les organisations de bibliothèques peuvent-elles participer ?

La société change rapidement et se transforme sous l'influence de nombreuses causes extérieures, comme l'accès à aet l'utilisation des technologies de l'information et de la communication, les mouvements démocratiques populaires, le multiculturalisme et l'intégration culturelle, et les défis économiques dans la distribution et l'utilisation des richesses. Cette session discutera comment les changements qui influencent les sociétés peuvent avoir un impact sur la démocratisation de l'accès numérique dans la société de demain ; et l'influence que les bibliothèques peuvent avoir sur la transformation de la société.

La nouvelle génération des systèmes de gestion des bibliothèques vise à rencontrer les lecteurs selon leurs besoins et à créer une gestion unifiée des collections et un travail continu pour le personnel. Le futur de l'automatisation des bibliothèques fondée sur le nuage signifie fournir une plateforme technique qui libère les données et les services pour une réutilisation par les bibliothèques et les développeurs. Andrew Pace, OCLC Executive Director, Networked Library Services, résumera les défis rencontrés par les bibliothèques et les plans stratégiques de l'OCLC pour offrir des solutions aux bibliothèques qui voient changer la nature de leurs collections et croître les besoins des utilisateurs. Jay Jordan, président de l'OCLC, parlera de la stratégie à long terme de l'OCLC construire sur l'informatique en nuage pour achever les effets du réseau à travers la coopération à l'échelle du web. Orateur : Siva Vaidhyanathan
Siva Vaidhyanathan est un historien de la culture et des média, et est actuellement profresseur Robertson dans l'étude des média à l'université de Virginie. De 1999 à 2007, il travailla au Département de la Culture et de la Communication à la New York University. Vaidhyanathan contribue souvent dans différents périodiques sur les média et les problèmes culturels, y compris dans Chronicle of Higher Education, New York Times Magazine, The Nation, and Salon.com. Il produit aussi un blog, www.googlizationofeverything.com. Il participe souvent à des émissions de la radio nationale publique et de MSNBC.COM et est apparu dans le "Daily Show" avec Jon Stewart. Vaidhyanathan est un "fellow" du New York Institute for the Humanities et de l'Institute for the Future of the Book. En 2011, il fut nommé président du Département des études sur les média de UVA.
En Mars 2002, le Library Journal cita Vaidhyanathan comme une des “Movers & Shakers” dans le domaine des bibliothèques . Dans l'histoire, Vaidhyanathan cita les bibliothécaires pour être au front des batailles du copyright et pour être les gardiens de nos biens culturels et d'information. En novembre 2004, le Chronicle of Higher Education appela Vaidhyanathan “un de nos meilleurs professeurs sur la propriété intellectuelle pour son rôle dans la culture contemporaine.” Il a témoigné comme expert devant le Bureau américain du Copyright sur l'acte du copyright numérique pour le millénaire.
Il s'est opposé au projet de numérisation de Google Books, sur la base du copyright. Il a publié l'opinion que le projet offrait un danger sur l'usage de l'usage honnête, parce que les demandes de l'usage honnête étaient si excessives qu'elles causent une limitation juridique à ce droit.
Vaidhyanathan naquit à Buffalo, N.Y., et étudia à l'université du Texas à Austin, obtenant un B.A. en histoire et un Ph.D. dans les études américaines.
